Literary Seattle

I’ve been in Seattle 9 years now this month. It’s been a great ride with a few bumps, but being in the #2 literary city per USA Today’s poll of literate America is pretty cool. So many great writers, venues and one of the only bookstores (OPEN BOOKS) dedicated to poetry exists here. Not to mention a great venue like Richard Hugo House and their various programs for writers, and the Pacific Northwest Writer’s Conference.

There is also Elliott Bay Bookstore, viewed by many as the holy grail of reading spaces, which continues to weather the storm of online retailing. Third Place Books with their Espresso Machine is making great strides in on-demand printing as well.

What is striking, though, is the community of writers in all genres. Seattle has an eclectic group and the writing thrives amidst the many opportunities around town to listen and read.
